English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 1318 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.

Clean three Russian pounds of pike, split, salt and cut into pieces. Arrange in layers in a saucepan.

Sprinkle each layer with breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, nutmeg and thin lemon slices.

Put butter on top, add four to six tablespoons of broth and bake in the oven.

To provide

3 Russian pounds of pike and ¼–½ pound of flour

½ lemon and ½ teaspoon of pepper

A knife-tip of nutmeg

½ glass of crushed rusks

Historical editorial note: The ingredient table lists flour, but the method specifies breadcrumbs rather than flour.
