No. 4043 — Another Method for Transporting Fresh Fish
English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 4043 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.
The source describes placing bread soaked in rum or spirits beneath the gills of a large live fish, wrapping it in a coarse mat and transporting it for two days or longer.
At the destination, the bread is removed and the fish placed in a large tub or bath of water.
Historical editorial note: This is an unsafe, unverified historical transport method that may kill or seriously harm fish.
