No. 4011 — Starting Artichokes
English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 4011 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.
At the beginning of March soak artichoke seed for three days, then sow in an indoor box.
When seedlings reach about one vershok, move the box to a cool entryway where it may experience a slight frost.
Once the ground thaws, transplant into a bed of rich soil.
