No. 3704 — Transporting Apples in Frosty Weather

English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 3704 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.

To transport apples during frosts, wrap each individually in writing paper or newspaper and then in tow.

Pack in a stout chest, separating rows with about four finger-widths of buckwheat so no apple touches another.

Historical editorial note: Modern food-contact packaging should not use newspaper inks against unwrapped fruit.
Original source: Read Russian recipe No. 3704. Historical quantities and terminology are retained. See the measurements guide. Period preparation and storage methods are not modern safety guidance.
