No. 3518 — Refreshing Soda Drink

English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 3518 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.

The source describes keeping powdered soda and a corresponding acidic powder separately in two half-bottles filled with water, corked and kept in a warm place in summer or on a windowsill in winter.

For each serving, put fruit syrup in half a glass of fresh water, add a little of the acidic solution and then the soda solution so that the water effervesces, and drink immediately.

Historical editorial note: The historic acid and soda powders are not fully specified and their strength is unknown. Do not use unidentified chemicals or sealed reactive mixtures in modern drinks.
Original source: Read Russian recipe No. 3518. Historical quantities and terminology are retained. See the measurements guide. Period preparation and storage methods are not modern safety guidance.
