No. 3434 — Lemon Water

English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 3434 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.

For 5 bottles water take 5 teacups sugar, pulp of 4 lemons, zest from 2 lemons and 3 small glasses port wine.

Mix thoroughly to dissolve the sugar, pour into a large bottle and leave in sunlight for twelve days.

Strain and bottle with 2 raisins per bottle, cork well, keep in the cellar for a day and then move to ice. The author suggests drinking after two weeks.

Historical editorial note: The prolonged sun exposure and tightly sealed bottle storage are historical, not validated safe beverage handling.
