English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 3295 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.

Make syrup from 1 pound sugar and 1 glass water. Add 1 pound sorted, washed cranberries, candied orange peel and ½ vershok vanilla. Cook as usual.

Alternatively bring 1 pound honey to the boil, add 1 pound cranberries, cook and rub through a sieve. The author uses this purée in pies.

Cranberries cooked with sugar may similarly be rubbed through a sieve and brought to the boil again.
