No. 3149 — English Fruit Cake
English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 3149 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.
Beat 1 pound (2 glasses) sugar with 8 yolks until pale. Gradually sift in 1 pound (3 glasses) flour; add 1 pound butter washed and beaten until pale, ½ pound (1½ glasses) dried currants and a little mace.
Stir the mixture continuously for a full hour, transfer to a greased mould and bake.
