No. 2031 — Mixed-Berry Compote
English historical translation of Molokhovets recipe No. 2031 from the 1901 Russian cookbook, retaining original methods and measures.
Sort and rinse three pounds mixed raspberries, wild or garden strawberries, gooseberries and red or blackcurrants. Put in a glass salad bowl.
Boil sugar with one and a half to two glasses water; pour hot syrup over berries.
Keep cold and serve after the mixture has chilled.
